CDFW Announces Closure of Mad River Fish Hatchery
The California Department of Fish and Wildlife announced Friday the end of fish rearing at the Mad River hatchery, citing millions in repair costs the department is on the hook for during a state budget crisis, with a relatively low output of fish.
The 150,000 or so steelhead trout, federally listed as threatened, along with some rainbow trout living there will be released in spring. Hatchery operations will then cease come June or early July.
