Chilean salmon export values to Russia surge 121% in August

Chilean salmon exporters shipped a little less fish to overseas markets this year through August compared to 2013 but did see a notable spike in product going to the Russian market since its widespread ban on food imports.
According to Infotrade Chilean salmon export values to Russia spiked 121 percent in August compared to July figures. Export values topped $31 million for the month, $17 million more month over month.
Exporters said they would test the Russian market for more opportunities after the Putin banned imports from major salmon suppliers including Norway. The uptick in export values suggests producers did see higher demand from the Russian market...
