One of Benjamin Franklin's many famous sayings was, "Fish and houseguests smell after three days."
Depending on the species, the refrigeration and many other factors fresh fish nowadays can last longer than three days, in my experience.
Alison Spiegel took this subject on in the Huffington Post asking "How long does fresh fish last in the fridge after you buy it?
After speaking with some fishmongers around New York City, she says found the consensus: "Fresh fish lasts in the fridge for two to three days, at most."
