Namibian Unions Want Fishing Quotas Tied to Better Working Conditions

Unions who represent mainly workers in the fishing sector are still battling for better working conditions and higher salaries, calling on the minister of fisheries and marine resources, Bernhard Esau, to withhold quotas from companies who do not ensure work and a better life for Namibians.
President of the Namibia Seamen and Allied Workers Union Paulus Hango said the workers in the fishing industry are struggling daily with poor working conditions and low salaries. According to him factory workers earn a monthly income of between N$1 500 and N$3 000, which he called "starving wages".
"Most work under stressful conditions and are not happy with the work.
