Almost 20 years after Jacksonville’s oyster beds were closed because of water pollution, new research by city scientists is triggering hope they might yet reopen — someday.
Creeks snaking through the Timucuan Ecological and Historic Preserve in the city’s northeast corner show few signs of the bacteria levels that ended centuries of shellfish harvesting there in 1996, recent water tests indicate.
