China Sees Declines in Smuggling of Shrimp Through Vietnam

There is a decline in the smuggling of white shrimps from Vietnam to China. This year Latin American exports of shrimp to Asia, especially Vietnam, have continued to increase. Most of the shrimp sold to Vietnam is assumed to cross the border into China. However, according to Chinese authorities, the amount of white shrimps smuggled to China through Haiphong, Vietnam has decreased owing to the greater risks in these illegal activities.
They suggest that the volume in the second half of the year will be much lower.
It is getting increasingly difficult for smugglers with the issuing of more and more new customs rules and there are much fewer people willing to do this business with the higher risks, though it is still possible for them to travel between the two countries.
The smugglers usually set out with their shrimps from Haiphong in order to avoid tariff and value-added tax. Some white shrimps will be sold in China's market directly, while some are bought by processing companies which are certified...
