5.4 Magnitude Earthquake Shakes Kodiak Residents
Residents of Kodiak Island were shaken by a 5.4 magnitude earthquake late Monday night, according to the U.S. Geographic Survey’s Alaska Earthquake Center. The epicenter was 26 miles southeast of Old Harbor, at a depth of 5.7 miles. The quake occurred at 8:35 p.m. offshore. More than 100 people on the island reported feeling the tremor to the AEC.
The center estimated a 48% chance of magnitude 3 and above aftershocks within the next week until March 1, 2023.
