During the first half of the year, China’s shrimp import volumes declined for the second consecutive year. According to data from the General Administration of Customs of China (GACC), shrimp imports in H1 2025 totaled 469,596 metric tons, representing a 2.8% year-over-year decrease. This follows a more significant 11.3% drop recorded in H1 2024. The decline may partly reflect inventory adjustments following the post-COVID demand peak in 2023. Crackdown on Salmon Smuggling: Chile Forms New Industry Task Force

The Chilean government has developed an ‘Anti-Salmon Theft Task Force’ amid increased instances of criminal activity focused on the country’s critical salmon sector, according to local news outlet The Puerto Varas.

Russian Fishery Company (RRPK) announced a leadership transition that will see the company’s CEO Saveliy Karpushin become Chairman of the Board.

EU to Push for Global Eel Restrictions Ahead of Winter COP; Japan's Fisheries Agency Vows Opposition

It has been learned that the European Union (EU) has decided to propose listing all species of the genus Anguilla, including the Japanese eel (Anguilla japonica), under Appendix II of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES). According to Japanese government officials, the EU Agriculture and Fisheries Council, held on June 23 and 24, resolved to submit this proposal.

President Donald Trump announced on Tuesday that the United States has reached a new trade agreement with Indonesia, a key agricultural partner. However, he provided few details about the scope or substance of the deal.

The last wild population of Atlantic salmon in the US is getting a boost from Maine Sea Grant.

The Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute (ASMI), in collaboration with Whole Foods, and the Bristol Bay Regional Seafood Development Association (BBRSDA), recently hosted a trip to Bristol Bay, Alaska.
