Peru Reopens Jumbo Squid Fishery With 82,000-Ton Additional Quota Through Year-End

Peru's Ministry of Production (PRODUCE) has ordered the reactivation of the giant squid — or jumbo squid — fishery after scientific studies by the Peruvian Marine Institute (IMARPE) confirmed sufficient biomass availability to support additional harvesting. The move raises the Maximum Allowable Catch Limit (MACCL) for 2026 to 709,659 tons, with 82,321 tons made available for extraction between August 30 and December 31.
