Russia's Far East Kamchatka Salmon Catch Hits 20-Year Low
Salmon fishing in Russia's Far East is close to catastrophic this year, according to Vladimir Galitsyn, chairman of the Kamchatka Salmon Fishermen's Association.
By his estimates, the current season could be the most unsuccessful in the modern history of Russian salmon fishing, with actual catches falling significantly short of initially planned figures. Low catches are being reported across the majority of fishing areas, including Kamchatka, Sakhalin, Chukotka, Magadan Oblast, Khabarovsk Krai, and Primorye.
