Canada, Gitanyow Sign 10-Year Fisheries Agreement
Pact supports salmon recovery, fisheries stewardship and commercial fishing opportunities in northwestern B.C.
The Government of Canada and the Gitanyow Hereditary Chiefs have signed a 10-year Incremental Fisheries Reconciliation Agreement supporting salmon recovery, fisheries stewardship and Gitanyow participation in commercial fishing opportunities. The agreement, signed in Gitanyow, B.C., by Fisheries Minister Joanne Thompson and Crown-Indigenous Relations Minister Rebecca Alty, will strengthen the capacity of the Gitanyow Fisheries Authority to deliver stewardship initiatives, including the Kitwanga Sockeye Recovery Program.
