Commerce Department Grants Fishery Disaster Status to Hoopa Valley Tribe, CA Sea Urchin Fishery

The US Department of Commerce has issued official fishery disaster determinations for the Hoopa Valley Tribe's Klamath River fall Chinook salmon fishery and California's red sea urchin fishery, making both eligible to receive federal disaster assistance for the first time.
Rep. Jared Huffman (D-San Rafael), who has spent years pressing federal agencies to accelerate relief for California fishing communities, welcomed the determinations on September 2 as a critical step for two constituencies that have faced sustained economic losses with little federal recourse.
