USDA Updates WIC Food Packages To Expand Seafood
This week the USDA’s Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) finalized updates to the foods prescribed to participants in the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children, also known as WIC. One of the updates includes the expansion of seafood in WIC.
According to the finalized rule, which can be found here, the Dietary Guidelines for Americans (DGA)-recommended daily amounts of food groups for seafood in children ages 2 through 4 years is revised from 0.00 WIC maximum monthly allowance (MMA) (0% of DGA), to 0.20 MMA (28% of DGA)...
