DFO Meets With New Brunswick Lobstermen, Agree To Adjust Gulf Closures

New Brunswick lobstermen are breathing a sigh of relief after meeting with officials from the Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO).

A North Atlantic right whale (NARW) detection in the Gulf of St. Lawrence resulted in the DFO temporarily closing a handful of grids. Lobstermen in LFA 23, one of the impacted fishing areas, reportedly refused to remove their gear from the water. And after talks with officials, an agreement was made to keep the fishery open.
