Ecuador Dominates Skipjack Tuna Landings in the EPO

Skipjack tuna (Katsuwonus pelamis) and yellowfin tuna (Thunnus albacares) are crucial species in tropical tuna fisheries in the Eastern Pacific Ocean (EPO).
The Inter-American Tropical Tuna Commission (IATTC) has estimated that Ecuadorian skipjack tuna catches increased by 69.2% year-on-year (y-o-y) from Jan-Sep 2024, reaching 49,351 metric tons.
