NL Snow Crab Fishery: Quota Rises, Protests Erupt, Prices Unresolved
In our top story today, the Newfoundland and Labrador snow crab fishery had a very busy weekend, between a Total Allowable Catch (TAC) announcement, an update on dock price negotiations, and crabbers protesting quota cuts. While the NL snow crab fishery received a 9% quota increase for the upcoming season, with the 3LNO area seeing a 25% improvement, division 3K saw a significant but anticipated quota cut of 25%, and the 3Ps area saw a 16% cut. On March 21, FFAW announced that it had failed to come to a price agreement with the Association of Seafood Producers (ASP), a group representing most crab processors in NL.
