OPINION: More Bad News for California's Fishing Communities
What's left of the fishing fleet in Sonoma County and the rest of California took another hit as wildlife officials shut down the commercial salmon fishing season for an unprecedented third consecutive year. It's a continuing calamity for communities whose identities and economies are based on catching, processing and selling fish. But writing off the state's commercial salmon fishing industry as a lost cause would be a disservice and a mistake.
