Sernapesca Cracks Down on Illegal Fishing in Southern Chile
Chile’s National Fisheries and Aquaculture Service (Sernapesca) has stepped up enforcement in southern Chile, seizing illegal spider crab gear in Magallanes and identifying seven vessels illegally harvesting southern hake in Aysén.
In Punta Arenas’ Barranco Amarillo cove, Sernapesca and the Chilean Navy found 99 bags of spider crab nets aboard a docked vessel. The gear was seized and the case referred to the Civil Court of Punta Arenas.
