NOAA Report Says North Atlantic Right Whale Entanglements Lower, But Problems Still Remain
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has released their national report on large whale entanglements for 2017, and according to the data, the number of confirmed entanglement cases nationwide is similar to the 10-year average annual number.
NOAA reports that there were 76 confirmed cases of large whale entanglements documented along the U.S. coast. Humpback whales were most frequently entangled in 2017, with 49 confirmed entanglements. There were 11 gray whales entangled, 7 minke whales, 3 blue whales, 2 North Atlantic right whales....
