Fishermen Using Acoustics, Broadcast Alerts to Outwit Whales

Alaska longliners are using underwater microphones to prevent sperm whales from stripping pricey sablefish, or black cod, from their hooks. Fishermen call it “getting whaled.”
The fish can fetch as much as $8 to $9 at the docks for larger sizes adding up to a huge loss to fishermen.
