PBS Segment Highlights Hurdles Facing Tuna Industry in American Samoa
In a recent PBS News Hour Weekend edition segment, reporter Mike Taibbi and producers Laura Fong and Mori Rothman explored the seafood industry in American Samoa.
American Samoa is home to a StarKist cannery which employs 2400 locals, about four percent of the entire population. Consider other industries directly related to the cannery, StarKist’s government relations manager Archie Soliai estimated it creates 4500 jobs.
