Council Responses to Chum Bycatch and Mid-Water Trawl’s Bottom Contact Raise Concerns In Alaska
Reactions to the Council’s modest response to impassioned testimony on capping the chum salmon bycatch in the Bering Sea pollock fleet are being heard just days after the meeting concluded on Tuesday.
In a release titled “Council Discards Testimony, Punts Action on Bycatch” four groups — the Kuskokwim River Inter-Tribal Fish Commission (KRITFC), the Bering Sea Fishermen’s Association, Alaska Longline Fishermen’s Association, and SalmonState — expressed their disappointment in the panel's final action for this meeting.
