NEFMC Makes Major Cut to Atlantic Herring Catch Limit, Lowest in Management Plan’s History
The New England Fishery Management Council (NEFMC) took final action on the specifications for the 2025-2027 Atlantic herring fishing seasons at a late September meeting in Massachusetts.
The council finalized an 89% reduction for the Atlantic herring fishery, with a revised annual catch limit (ACL) of 2,710 metric tons, down from the default ACL of 23,961 metric tons.
