California’s Pacific Herring Seasons, Quotas Set for Winter 2024-2025

While the West Coast fisheries focus in winter is on Dungeness crab, a few fishermen are eyeing California’s herring fisheries.

The 2024-2025 commercial fishing season for Pacific herring is just around the corner, with the herring eggs on kelp fishery starting in December and the fisheries for adult herring starting in January 2025. The California Department of Fish and Wildlife has issued a reminder about seasons and quotas for the various sectors and geographic locations.
