A number of U.S. Senators and House members wrote a letter to President Biden sharing their concerns over the increase of crabmeat imports from Venezuela.

New Requirements for Norwegian Businesses Exporting Seafood to Vietnam

The Vietnamese authorities have updated the requirements for Norwegian companies that want to register to be approved for the import of seafood products to Vietnam. 

Who do the requirements apply to? 

Businesses that have already been approved in Vietnam are not covered by the new requirements to retain their approved status. If these companies change something in their registration, e.g. add new products or categories, then the new requirements must be met.

BioMar Becomes First in UK to Get Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) Feed Certification

BioMar, one of the world’s largest aquaculture feed suppliers, now has two production facilities in the world that are certified by the Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC). NEFMC: Request for Nominations for Council Scientific and Statistical Committee

The Council is seeking qualified candidates to serve on its Scientific and Statistical Committee.

Over one million salmon have died at adjacent Mowi Scotland sites during a year-and-a-half production cycle, according to various media reports.

Japan's August Surimi Products Output Keeps Declining for Eight Months

The Food Marketing Research and Information Center announced that the production volume of surimi products in August (preliminary estimate) was 32,800 tons, down 0.6% compared to the same month last year. It has been down for eight consecutive months. The main product, fried surimi, increased by 5.1% to 12,000 tons, but the other surimi product category, which includes crab-flavored products, was down 8% to 9,275 tons, reported Minato Shimbun.

Acme Smoked Fish has issued a voluntary recall on certain packages of Kirkland Signature Smoked Salmon due to potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes, according to a recall notice posted to Costco’s website.

DeSantis Announces Investment in Marine Infrastructure to Support Recovery

Today, Governor Ron DeSantis announced the award of $1,000,000 in funding from the Florida Disaster Fund to the Fish and Wildlife Foundation of Florida to support the rebuilding of fishing and aquaculture infrastructure damaged by Hurricanes Helene and Milton. Bristol Bay Red King Crab Harvest “Very Good” Says Fleet

Unalaska's KUCB Radio reported yesterday that landings of Bristol Bay Red King Crab (BBRKC) have reached about 680,000 lbs as of yesterday afternoon, and average weights and catch rates are up from last year.
