Newfoundland's 3Ps Inshore Cod Fishermen Protest Fishing Extension for Offshore Trawlers

Inshore fish harvesters from the south coast, who fish in the zone known as 3Ps, say the Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO) has broken a promise.
Upset is not a strong enough word to describe how they feel about the DFO, Fish, Food and Allied Workers (FFAW) union president Keith Sullivan said Friday.
Sullivan joined fish harvesters who gathered in front of Bonavista-Burin-Trinity MP Judy Foote’s office in Grand Bank to protest a decision by DFO to extend the cod-fishing season in the area for offshore trawlers.
According to the union, harvesters, who called for an immediate reversal of the decision, were promised there would be no extension.
