ISA Detected in Four Farmed Salmon in New Brunswick; No Signs of Outbreak With Cages Depopulated
SEAFOODNEWS.COM [SeafoodNews] October 17, 2016
For the first time in four years, the Canadian Food Inspection confirmed four cases of infectious salmon anaemia (ISA) in farmed salmon in New Brunswick. The owners of the farms were not identified by federal or provincial officials.
Four separate incidents were documented in the Bay of Fundy since March. The most recent was on September 20.
The New Brunswick Department of Agriculture Aquaculture and Fisheries and the Atlantic Canada Fish Farmers Association said each case involved just a single fish.
"In this particular case, it was four fish," said Susan Farquharson of the association. "Four cages were depopulated and there hasn't been any further incidents."
