Ecuador Shrimp Prices to China Fall to Lowest Level in Five Years

January shrimp exports from Ecuador show the continued dominance of shipments to Asia, primarily China and Vietnam.
However export prices have now come down to their lowest level in five years. The $US export price posted by CNA in January was $2.87, and the last time prices were lower was in January 2013, when the average export price was $2.72.

On January 1st, China cracked down on the grey cross-border trade through Vietnam, and simultaneously reduced tariffs on imported shrimp, so that now it no longer makes economic sense to transship through Vietnam....
