Land-Based Recirculated Aquaculture Systems Gaining Traction
Land-based recirculated aquaculture systems (RAS) are gaining traction; seen by some as the future of fish farming. Nordic Aquafarms is currently constructing the world’s largest landbased salmon farm in Belfast, Maine, with a projected 33,000 tons annual production. Meanwhile in Norway, Salmon Evolution has just secured NOK 50 million ($5.8M) funding for the biggest land-based facility in Europe, with a planned capacity of 28,000 tons of salmon per year.
