Oregon Sees Record Market Squid Landings
A fishery more popular in Southern California appears to be moving north to Oregon. The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife said Thursday this year's record landings of market squid, more than 7 million pounds so far, is triggering interest from the seafood industry and fishery managers.
At least 29 vessels, both trawl and purse seine, have shown up in Oregon to fish for squid so far. And they started early -- in March. The landings already have slowed down a bit, ODFW fishery managers said.
