DFO: Newfoundland and Labrador Lobster Seasons Will Not Open Before May 1
The lobster fishery in Newfoundland and Labrador will not open before May 1, Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) announced. The decision will impact lobster fishing areas (LFAs) 3 -14c.
Once decisions are made for specific areas, the DFO said announcements will be made through Notices to Fish Harvesters. Typically, LFAs 3-13b begin fishing on April 20, so fishermen are set for at least a two-week delay. The season in LFAs 14a-14c normally begins in early May.
