EPA Extends Deadline to Consider New Data in Long-term Protection of Bristol Bay
Yesterday the regional Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) office in Seattle extended a deadline from November 29, 2021 to May 31, 2022 to consider a “substantial volume of new information” since the initial Proposed Determination (PD) to protect Bristol Bay from the Pebble Mine was first issued under the Obama Administration in 2014.
The announcement is the latest twist in a nearly two-decade long struggle to enact permanent protections for the world’s largest wild salmon run and the environment it needs to survive.
