Fishermen’s Finest Loses Appeal to Increase Sideboards on Groundfish in Alaska
Kirkland, WA-based Fishermen’s Finest has lost an appeal to remove limits on groundfish that were part of a Jones Act waiver the company received for its newly-built catcher-processor America’s Finest.
The U.S. Federal Circuit Court of Appeals rejected Fishermen’s Finest’s argument that its Fifth Amendment rights were violated by the limits, or sideboards, contained in the 2018 U.S. Congressional waiver. The waiver, and its limitation on the company’s catch allocations, were part of the Frank LoBiondo Coast Guard Authorization Act of 2018.
