ADF&G Announces King Crab Closure in Southeast Alaska for 2023/24
The commercial red and blue king crab fishery in Southeast Alaska is closed for the sixth year in a row this year to commercial harvest due to a dismal stock assessment. The report itself will be released later this month.
Scientists at Alaska Department of Fish and Wildlife gathered data that indicated only 119,000 pounds of legal male red king crab are available for harvest — significantly less than the required 200,000 lbs guided harvest limit (GHL) that triggers an opening.
