Researchers Announced Japan’s Coastal Fishing Grounds Moving Northward Since the Late 1800s
The fishing grounds for many fish species have moved north since the Meiji era (1868-1912). In a paper published on March 26, researchers from the Japan Fisheries Research and Education Agency published a paper on how the prefectures with the most catches have changed over time. It analyzed what happened based on domestic catch statistics from 1894 to 2021.
