ANALYSIS: The Snow Crab Market, Update Mid-May
The Gulf of St. Lawrence quota is over 92 percent caught, with only 4 million pounds left of the quota to catch. With the fishing season just about over, many would probably say it’s a positive given the start of North American right whales showing up in the fishing grounds for snow crab. The majority of the quota in the Gulf, which is down roughly 26 percent from a year prior, has been caught well ahead of any grid closures.
