Norway’s Directorate of Fisheries Orders Lerøy To Monitor Waterways Following May Escapement
Lerøy Midt Sjø AS has been ordered to monitor waterways and remove farmed salmon following multiple escapement incidents earlier this year.
An escape incident first occurred at Lerøy’s Naustneset locality in Tingvollfjorden in February. The company reported an escapement of approximately 5,000 salmon with an average weight of about 5 kg. Lerøy implemented immediate recapture measures and early on were able to catch approximately 3,700 farmed fish. A few months later an even bigger escape incident occurred.
