With Maersk Leaving AK, Seafood Cargo Has Few Shipping Options as Groundfish Season Begins
The Bering Sea pollock fishery starts next Monday and they will have one last Maersk ship loading product in Dutch Harbor before heading south from Alaska for the last time. The shipping giant announced December 19 that it was withdrawing its trans-Pacific shipments from Alaska due to “ongoing effort to strengthen our product offerings and maintain reliability in the network.” The Cape Sorel, a Denmark-flagged container ship, is slated for a final voyage out of Dutch Harbor Feb. 11.
