State Tells Feds Action is Needed to Ensure Groundfish Season Starts May 1
Concern over the way regulators came up a plan to manage Atlantic cod as four stocks instead of two is colliding with worries over whether the measures will be put in place by NOAA Fisheries by May 1, the start of the 2025 fishing year.
The Massachusetts Department and Fish and Game and others are sounding the alarm that without regulatory action by federal regulators, groundfish vessels could be left tied up at the docks after April 30.
