WPRFMC Mandates Electronic Monitoring for Longline Vessels in Hawaii, American Samoa

The Western Pacific Regional Fishery Management Council (WPRFMC) made electronic monitoring (EM) mandatory for longline vessels operating under Hawai‘i and American Samoa limited-entry permits.
The WPRFMC's decision amends the Pelagic Fishery Ecosystem Plan to implement EM systems for at-sea monitoring, including protected species interactions and other data collection requirements, according to a press release from the WPRFMC.
