Independent Study Finds Gulf Menhaden Fishery Has Minimal Impact on Red Drum Stocks
The long-awaited results of the first independent study on bycatch involving the Gulf menhaden fishery have been released.
Funded by the state of Louisiana, the study found that bycatch of red drum in the fishery is low, accounting for just 3.4% of all red drum removals in state waters. This is below Louisiana’s 5% threshold for non-target species by weight.
