Alaska's 2026 Salmon Season Ends as Lowest Harvest Since 1987
Alaska-wide salmon harvests totaled 87.2 million fish as of the first week of September, about 70% of the pre-season projection of 125.5 million. It's the first time in 39 years that the state's overall harvest has fallen below 100 million fish.
According to the McKinley Research Group, which publishes weekly updates on behalf of the Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute (ASMI), every species of salmon underperformed this season.
