NOAA Gives Notice that 4 West Coast Salmon Stocks are 'Overfished'

NOAA has published a notice in the federal register that four specific stocks of Pacific Salmon are considered overfished. The ruling alerts the Pacific Fisheries Management Council and other regulators that actions will be required to end the overfished condition.
NOAA cited the excessive fishing pressures on Chinook and Coho salmon in the Columbia River Basin and along the Washington coast.
The notice also ncluded overfishing findings for North Pacific swordfish.
Federal law requires the Pacific Fishery Management Council to take immediate action to end the overfishing.
