The 'Blob' trumps upcoming El Nino in Effects on West Coast

Forget El Nino.
It's all about the blob.
Because it's a hot topic, pun intended, Bill Peterson gets a lot of media calls about the impending El Nino, the looming arrival of currents of northward migrating warm ocean water off our coast.
Peterson, an oceanographer, is the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) senior scientist at the Northwest Fisheries Science Center in Newport.
"I was on the phone the other day about the El Nino that's coming," Peterson said about reporters' calls. "I said 'OK, people, this is an interesting call. But how will you know when the El Nino actually gets here?'
"The water's already warm, and it's been warm for about a year and a half...
