List of Nominees for U.S. Commissioners to the IPHC Shows the Alaska Seat in Play

NOAA Fisheries just released the list of final nominations for the two open seats on the U.S. side of the International Pacific Halibut Commission. Current terms, held by Don Lane for the Alaska seat and Bob Alverson for the non-Alaska seat, expire December 31, 2015. Both are eligible for reappointment.
Ten individuals are challenging incumbent Lane. Alverson was unchallenged in the nomination process. The latest names are the result of an extended deadline, announced last month by NMFS, in an effort to provide a choice for each Presidential appointment. The first nomination process, which ended last June, produced only the two incumbent’s names.
NOAA Fisheries is now seeking letters of public support for all the nominees for the two 2-year appointments. Deadline for submitting support letters is October 23, 2015. Letters already submitted in the first go-round need not be resubmitted.
