Hainan Shrimp Farmers Hobbled by EMS and Slow Growth; Still Seeing High Mortality

Chinese imports of shrimp continue to be very strong, with a significant impact on the global market. A report on Hainan white shrimp aquaculture shows one of the reasons for this: the local industry is still suffering from diseases.
After a successful first crop which was harvested in June with 80% success rate, the experience of the second crop has been very different.
In Changpo, survival dropped to as low as 20%, with multiple reports of Vibrio (EMS) and white feces.
Farmers stocked ponds again in October to sell for the Chinese New Year. But they appear to be having problems. A reporter for Agricultural Wealth said the province is still challenged by the problems of serious diseases and slow growth in its farming. Some yellow color vibrios are found in Changpo’s freshwater aquaculture area. Many medicines are not able to eliminate these vibrios, which have exerted very bad effect on farming.
Wengtian county of Wenchang city has been faced with outbreaks of cyanobacteria as well as severe liver and pancreatic diseases. ..
