Canada's Sea Choice Claims MSC and ASC Not Enforcing Conditions of Certification Required for Renewal

The eco-certified fish in your fridge may not be as virtuous as you think, according to a study released by SeaChoice.
Only 15 per cent of Canadian fisheries certified by the Marine Stewardship Council have met conditions to reduce by-catch and damage to eco-systems by changing fishing practices, according to Shannon Arnold, co-author of What's Behind the Label.
"Most of the fisheries that are certified by MSC are given conditions, things they are supposed to improve to attain global best practice," she said. "They are often certified with outstanding issues, but they must make those improvements within the five-year period of their certification."
In reality, no Canadian fishery has ever lost certification by failing to meet those conditions...
