Rumoi renews commitment to promote kazunoko consumption at 80th celebration of its port opening
Rumoi, a port city in central Hokkaido facing the Sea of Japan, held a symposium on the promotion of kazunoko (herring roe) in Japan at the celebration marking the 80th anniversary of its port opening.
Rumoi is the largest kazunoko producing site in Japan.
About 250 people, including local government officials and ordinary citizens, participated in the symposium, in which experts discussed ways to expand consumption of kazunoko in Japan.
Lectures were delivered on the history of the Rumoi port since its construction, and a panel discussion was held by four experts including city mayor Sadatoshi Takahashi on the new approaches the port should take in the areas of seafood production and tourism...
