European Public Prosecutor Investigates €4M Fraud in Aquaculture Funding
Nine individuals and five companies were charged with aggravated fraud to obtain €4 million ($4.1 million) for the aquaculture sector, funded by the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund (EMFF), per the European Public Prosecutor’s Office (EPPO).
The EPPO said the issue revolves around five cooperative societies suspected of submitting false documentation and fictitious insurance policies to obtain funds for new fish tanks and a vessel for the aquaculture sector.
