Nationwide Smuggling Crackdown in China Hits Seafood Importers in 11 cities

In a move that could prove disruptive to many markets prior to the Chinese New Year, Chinese authorities made major smuggling raids in the last week of December in eleven cities, targeting seafood importers who brought product through Vietnam.
Such products include Vannamei shrimp from Ecuador, Argentine shrimp, and panagasius.
Xinhua News reported that Fujian-based Fujian Anxin Industrial will face criminal prosecution after being implicated in smuggling 41,000t of pangasius products into China worth CNY 690m.
Fuzhou customs discovered and dismantled a smuggling ring involving 38 individuals. The report states that in 2014, Fujian Anxin established a subsidiary company in Vietnam which then sent seafood products including pangasius, tuna and shrimp into China...
